Assemble your own kaleidoscope! – July 10th at 3pm @ Shanthi Mandir
Instructors: Meera and Chandra
During this workshop each child will assemble his/her own kaleidoscope (and get to keep it too).
This activity works best for children 5 and older. We will need parents to help younger children.
Agenda for the 2-hour workshop:
– Assemble the Kaleidoscope
– Learn about basic optics (physics concepts) with hands-on activities
Please make a donation of $20 to HTCC if your family/kid attends the workshop
WORKSHOP #2. VEDIC CHANTING WORKSHOP
Vedic Verses from Hinduism Scriptures! – July 17th at 3pm @ Shanthi Mandir
Instructors: Abilash
During this workshop, children will learn Ganapathi Prarthana, Ganesh Pancharatnam,
Krishnashtakam, Mantra Pushpam, and Kshma Prarthana. This activity works best for children 5
and older.
Agenda for the 2-hour workshop:
– Learn chanting with proper pronunciation, intonations, meanings
– Review take-home pdf files for practice
There will be opportunities to chant in unison at future Mandir Pujas in Fall (like Janmashtami
and Ganesh Chaturthi)!
WORKSHOP #3. TECH WORKSHOP
Learn how to become a Internet Wizard! – July 25th at 3pm @ Shanthi Mandir
Instructors: Prasad and Smrita
During this workshop, children will learn how the Internet and Computers work together. This
activity works best for children 5 and older.
Agenda for the 2-hour workshop:
– Learn the secrets behind the world wide web and its ever growing knowledge
– Participate in a group activity to create new Bal Sabha logo/symbol, imagine slogans for
what Bal Sabha represents as part of a ‘The Bal Sabha Experience’ video, which will be
posted on the new Bal Sabha website!
There will be prizes for creative contributions!!
WORKSHOP #4. SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOP
Implement Sustainability at the Mandir! – July 31st at 3pm @ Shanthi Mandir
Instructor: Gopal
During this workshop, children will learn how to think and implement some of the best practices
in environment sustainability. This activity works best for children 5 and older.
Agenda for the 2-hour workshop:
– Learn the chemistry/engineering that can make our planet more ‘green’
– Participate in a group activity on the design, fabrication and installation of two projects —
Composting from organic food waste at the Mandir, and Rainwater harvesting for routine
garden use at the Mandir
Best workshop projects have the chance to be used at the Mandir on a routine basis!!
ANNOUNCEMENT
Quilting for All – beginners through intermediate quilters
A series of 6 quilting classes, to be held alternate Sundays from 3-5 pm, July – September. If you
are new to quilting, you will learn the basics and make a table runner. If you have experience, we
can tailor the class to your level of interest.
Cost $25 (donation to HTCC)
Location: Meera’s home, 2404 Limerick Lane
What you will need: a sewing machine, fabric and a Singer Quilting book (we will discuss
preferred fabric and the book in the first class).
This class will be limited to 4 new students.
