Cultural Programs of HTCC hosted a Musical Performance
“Devotional Songs of Annamacharya, Purandaradasa and other Composers”on Saturday, November 8, 2014 by Dr. S. R. Lakshmi Calyam (Vocal), accompanied by Dr. Prasad Calyam (Mridangam).

Dr. Lakshmi Calyam is an accomplished Vocalist, Violinist and Musicologist. She originally hails from Kuchipudi, Andhra Pradesh and now lives in Bangalore. She obtained her Masters Degree in Music (Violin) and Ph. D. for her thesis on ‘A study of the compositions of Tyagaraja and Purandaradasa’ from the Bangalore University. She has over thirty years of music teaching experience as a Professor and has published more than 100 research papers in music. She has also authored two books: (1) References to Music in Non Sangita Literature; (2) A study of the compositions of Tyagaraja and Purandaradasa. As the Director of Nada Department of the Veda Adhyayana Kendra @ Bangalore, she regularly teaches Carnatic classical vocal and violin music. She organizes an annual “Composers Day” for several great composers such as Tyagaraja, Muthuswamy Dikshitar, Purandaradasa, Annamacharya, Ramadasa, and others.
